Our Story
For over 18 years, Main Street Medical has been more than a clinic — it's been a neighborhood institution built on relationships, trust, and the belief that great healthcare should be accessible to everyone.
Who We Are
Main Street Medical — formally known as Metro True Care Medical, P.C. — was founded with a singular conviction: that every patient, regardless of background or language, deserves a physician who sees them as a whole person.
Located at 139 Centre Street, Suite 709, in the heart of Manhattan's Chinatown, our practice was established in 2007 to fill a genuine gap: a primary care home for the Asian-American community and the broader Lower Manhattan neighborhood that offered clinical excellence alongside cultural and linguistic familiarity.
Today, we serve a diverse community of patients of all ages and backgrounds. Our physicians are board-certified internists who have trained at some of the most respected institutions in the country — including Sun Yat-Sen University, St. Barnabas Hospital, Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Western University of Health Sciences, and the State University of New York at Buffalo.
We believe the best medical outcomes come from the best patient-doctor relationships — and that means speaking your language, understanding your culture, and taking the time to truly listen.
What Guides Us
These aren't mission statement words — they're the everyday commitments that shape every appointment, every conversation, and every care decision we make.
We exist because of our community and for our community. Every clinical decision is made with the patient's full life — their family, culture, and circumstances — in mind.
Our physicians hold board certifications in Internal Medicine and train continuously within the Rendr network to stay at the forefront of evidence-based primary care.
We speak English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. But cultural competence goes beyond language — it means understanding the values, concerns, and perspectives that shape health decisions.
Our clinic features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and accessible restrooms. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and a broad range of commercial insurance plans.
Telehealth, patient portal access, and free in-office Wi-Fi ensure that managing your health fits seamlessly into your busy New York life.
Good medicine is also good humanity. We treat every patient with the same attention and care we'd want for our own families — because that's exactly who we're serving.
Our Journey
From a single-physician practice to a fully networked multi-physician clinic — our growth mirrors the trust our community has placed in us.
Metro True Care Medical, P.C. is established at 139 Centre Street, Suite 709. Dr. Zhang — trained at Sun Yat-Sen University and St. Barnabas Hospital — opens the practice to serve the underserved Chinatown community.
Additional board-certified physicians join the team, including Dr. Kuan H. Shen and Dr. Cynthia Tam, D.O. The practice grows its multilingual capabilities and extends service hours.
Main Street Medical joins the Rendr Care Physicians network — NYC's leading multi-specialty group serving the Asian-American community — gaining access to a broader specialist network and advanced care coordination.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the practice rapidly deploys secure telehealth services, ensuring continuous care for vulnerable patients during a critical period.
With Dr. Anthony Tam, MD added to the team and Saturday hours in operation, Main Street Medical continues to expand capacity and serve an ever-growing patient community across Manhattan.
